It is strongly suggested that all incoming freshmen participate in SIU's New Student Orientation (NSO) orientation.siu.edu. During New Student Orientation, parents and guardians are encouraged to participate in the Family Orientation Program. This is where University administrators talk with families about developmental changes students may experience during their first year of college and ways they can play an active part in helping their student be focused and successful in their first year. Exploratory Student Advisement offers a session during New Student Orientation that students and families are encouraged to attend that offers important information on what to expect during their first year and the services offered by our department.
During New Student Orientation, students and their families will be given a brief overview of the components of their program by staff to help them become better acquainted with the services available to them during their time here. They also will have the opportunity to meet other University representatives from campus offices such as Financial Aid and Career Services. Students and their families will have the opportunity to ask questions during these sessions or may meet with the representatives after the orientation.
