The Exploratory Student - Saluki Success Initiative (EXP2/SSI) program is designed to provide academic support to a select group of students who show potential for college-level work but who do not meet regular University admissions requirements. Without such an opportunity, these students would not be able to attend the University.
Our program provides students with academic support services during their first year that are designed to assist them in meeting SIU undergraduate requirements and in progressing toward graduation while preparing to declare their major or reapply to a competitive program.
Services include mandatory academic coaching, advising, mentoring and tutoring for students as they take college-level courses that apply to their intended degree programs. Motivated and committed students will find academic advisors and other staff members who will work with them to take them from where they are to where they want to be.
EXP2 Students are:
Students who show potential to be successful but were not admitted to SIU based on the admission criteria
Students who have a major of interest, have multiple interests, or are undecided
EXP2 Students will:
Work with their Academic Advisor to schedule classes
Create a personal academic plan to identify their area of interest
Be required to adhere to their Saluki Success Initiative contract
Attend mandatory workshops each semester
Have a Saluki Success Coach to assist with their transition to college
Take a UNIV 101: Saluki Success course
Meet with a Tutor and/or Academic Coach in the Center for Learning Support Services
Learn more about how Exploratory Student Advisement and the College of Liberal Arts prepares our students for success. We will discuss the contract terms for the Saluki Success Initiative (SSI) program and allow you time to ask questions about this program and more.
Our team can’t wait to meet you!
