I'M IN!
After you are admitted to SIU, New Student Orientation (NSO) is the next step in your Saluki Journey. This event is an on-campus, one-day experience for admitted students and their supporters. These events are designed to give you a jump start on your first semester at SIU. Mingle with other students, get involved on campus, and maximize your use of available resources.
All incoming freshmen are required to participate in SIU's New Student Orientation (NSO). Transfer students are recommended to register and attend as well.
After you reserve your NSO date, you will be added to a contact list for your academic advisor.
- Registration for spring semester classes usually opens in November.
- Registration for summer and fall semester classes usually opens in April.
- Your advisor will reach out to schedule an advisement appointment close to registration opening and prior to your NSO date.
A non-refundable $150 New Student Program fee, set by the SIU Board of Trustees, covers costs for NSO, Welcome Week, and new student programs throughout your first year. This fee will be assessed on your first tuition bill after you register for classes. You do not need to pay it up front, but you are responsible for the fee as a first-time SIU student.
Contact NSO for questions at orientation@siu.edu or 618-453-1000.
